#216 - When Board Governance is Not Enough: More than Best Practice
Description:
The PMI Vancouver Island Chapter, through the lens of PMI's winning aspiration of "empowering people to make ideas a reality," identified key areas that needed to mature within their structure in order to move beyond good governance to good work. Through simple and subtle ways, the board learned to take personal responsibility, be passionate, think long term and create a safe space to lead. They discovered how to stop micromanaging through enforcing old policies, build trust over time and spend time better understanding how members interact with each other. Fundamentally, by focusing on PMI's transformational strategy, they moved their leadership style from a traditional, best practice based model to a servant leadership style of board governance. They prioritized empathy, listening, awareness and healing all the while working toward conceptualization, persuasion, stewardship, community building and committing to the growth of the greater membership of the chapter.

Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, attendees will be able to:• Discuss the need to foster board relationships that create collaboration and ownership.• Discuss how to value and create space for board members' unique gifts and skills sets.

#357 - Unleash Your Decision-Making Genius by Transforming Adverse Childhood Experiences, Like Alexander Hamilton
Description:
Finding innovative solutions to high-impact project problems requires the higher-thinking brain to control other brain areas to render the strategic, stroke-of-genius ideas that jettison projects forward. Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to: (1) identify ACEs to close gaps between the higher- and lower-thinking brain to become an innovation-driving, strategic decision-making master;(2) demonstrate with their team members the neuroscience-based Mind The Gap™ Strategy to close cognitive gaps to become innovation-delivering leaders.
